a D’Addario brand, challenged their designers to come up with

a capo that solves a problem for guitarists.

The problem is, that most capos do not compensate for different guitars,

yet every guitar is a little different. Electrics use light strings and

very close action. Acoustics generally need more action, some guitars

have a high nut, some are set up for bottleneck slide, etc..

So why should all of these very different guitars have the same capo,

when they don’t require the same capo tension? And if you apply

more pressure than is needed, it will throw the intonation way off.

On the other hand, if you apply too little, the strings will buzz.

Generally all capos are just really very tight to cover the bases,

and for many guitars they will always throw the intonation of the guitar off.

Even more so with a thick neck. So the challenge was to make a capo

that has a variable tension system, adaptable for each guitar and guitarist.

The NS is the result. 

They also found that if you only apply the tension needed regardless of neck thickness,

the capo doesn’t have to weigh very much.

amount of tension needed to do the job.
